ICSI Treatment (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection)
What is ICSI treatment?
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an infertility treatment wherein live sperm is injected into a person’s eggs in a laboratory. Specifically, ICSI treatment is a form of IVF that uses assisted reproductive technology (ART) to address male infertility and promotes fertilization through the direct injection of a single sperm into a single egg.

The ICSI Treatment Process at Benecare Hospital:
Consultation:
Take your first step towards your parenthood journey with an initial consultation with fertility specialists at Benecare. Your medical history will be thoroughly examined and assessed, necessary tests will be conducted, and various treatment options will be discussed.
Retrieval:
The man will have to produce a semen sample into a cup, or the sperm will have to be surgically retrieved for the ICSI treatment. There are various ways to obtain sperm of optimal quality. In a few instances, the procedure of sperm retrieval may be performed ahead of time and the sperm may be frozen and saved.
Injection of Sperm into Egg:
This step includes semen washing and the isolation of single sperm after the sperm retrieval. A very fine hollow needle is used to inject the sperm into an egg. It negates the need to swim through the cervical fluid as the sperm is injected directly. Post injection, sperm can take up to 24 hours to fertilize an egg and create an embryo.
Monitoring the Embryo:
The fertilized embryos are kept in a controlled laboratory environment for up to 6 days to monitor for signs of growth and development. High-quality embryos have the best chance of developing into a pregnancy, as not all the fertilized embryos will be transferred to the woman’s uterus.
Transfer of Embryos:
One or more of the best-quality embryos are selected for transfer to the woman’s womb. The transfer is done using an ultrasound-guided catheter. This generally happens 2-5 days after fertilization.
Pregnancy Test & Follow up:
Approximately two weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is performed to find out if the procedure has been a success. Upon a positive pregnancy test, our team will leave no stone unturned to provide continuous monitoring and care for the desired and optimum outcome for you and your baby.
